Currently, there is a sense of calm at the Banjska monastery, but an overwhelming unease and concern linger among the monks and pilgrims
The Raška-Prizren Diocese (SOC) informs the public that the situation at the Banjska monastery is presently stable, though apprehension remains due to today’s events both in the vicinity and within the monastery’s gates.
The armed individuals who breached the gate earlier today have left the premises, and there is now a presence of Kosovo police and EULEX at the entrance and within the monastery’s courtyard.
Inside the monastery’s residence, the Abbot, along with other monks and a group of pilgrims from Novi Sad, including two minors, remain. Monastery officials report that everyone is currently safe, and regular worship services continue in the residence’s chapel, with hopes that this ordeal will soon come to an end.
